Dr Kurkar is a highly experienced Consultant Psychiatrist in the NHS and the private sector.
Currently, he is the Clinical Director of Mental Health Services in Oldham and the lead of TMS
service.
He specialises in Adult psychiatry and works with a wide range of disorders such as depression,
treatment resistant depression, bipolar affective disorder, ADHD, anxiety and psychosis.
He is also experienced in Perinatal psychiatry and treats patients with mental health conditions
during pregnancy, the postnatal period and offers preconception consultations for women who want
to plan their pregnancy. He was previously the Clinical Lead for the Perinatal Strategic Clinic
Network in Greater Manchester which involved developing new model of Perinatal Services across
the region.
Dr Kurkar established the first NHS TMS (Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation) Service in the
Northwest of England and is the Clinical Lead of the Pennine Care TMS Service. He is actively
involved in high calibre TMS clinical research and is the Oldham Principal Investigator for the
BRIGhTMIND TMS Randomised Control Trial RCT.
Dr Kurkar also has an interest in the field of Liaison psychiatry and the Pain Medicine. He works with
patients who suffer from mental health conditions related to severe and chronic physical health
conditions which frequently co-exist and/or exacerbate chronic pain.
